MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two vehicles collided where Kirby Parkway meets State Route 385 on Saturday morning, and three people ended up in the hospital, the Memphis Police Department said.
Officers were sent to Kirby Parkway at 385 East just after 10 a.m., with the call logged at 10:11 a.m.
The crash happened on the southern leg of State Route 385, the stretch named Bill Morris Parkway. That freeway runs from I-240 in southeastern Memphis out to I-269 in Collierville and also serves Germantown, giving drivers a quick spur between the city and its southeastern suburbs. Heading east from I-240, the six-lane road meets Ridgeway Road first, then crosses a floodplain before reaching the Kirby Parkway exit. The route is known for its single-point urban interchanges, a design that funnels turning traffic through one signal in the middle of the bridge. Past Kirby Parkway, the road crosses Nonconnah Creek on its way toward Riverdale Road. Crews built the southern section in pieces between 1990 and 2000, and an extension opened in 2007.
One of the people hurt was a girl. She was first listed in critical condition before her status was later upgraded to non-critical. The other two people taken from the scene were also in non-critical condition.
Police have not said what led to the collision, and no cause had been released by Saturday evening. The crash investigation remains open, and no charges or citations have been announced.
Anyone who saw the collision is asked to contact the Memphis Police Department.
