Memphis, Tenn. — Memphis police are investigating a Friday afternoon stabbing in Orange Mound that left three people hurt and sent each of them to a hospital.
Officers were called about 3:15 p.m. to the 1500 block of Hamilton Street near Deadrick Avenue on a wounding report. When they arrived, they found a man with a stab wound that was not life-threatening and sent him for treatment.
While that patient was en route, detectives learned two more victims had walked into a hospital with injuries of their own. Police have not detailed those conditions or named a weapon used in the assault.
The Memphis Police Department is leading the case. No suspect description has been released. Felony assault charging decisions in Shelby County sit with the county district attorney office that covers the county.
Orange Mound neighbors often see heavy patrol traffic after violent calls, and Friday’s scene fit that pattern as medics and officers worked the Hamilton Street block. Investigators are still piecing together how three people were cut in the same Friday incident on that Orange Mound street block.
City data lists Shelby County under Tennessee’s district attorney system rather than a solicitor model, which is why charging packages land with that office after a violent felony call. Anyone with video, names or other tips can contact the Memphis Police Department. The Shelby County district attorney office that covers the county will review any charging file once detectives finish the initial canvass.
