Whitehaven is in the southern portion of Memphis, bounded by Brooks Road / I-55 to the north, the Shelby County line to the south, Winchester Road to the east, and the western Memphis city limits. Elvis Presley Boulevard (US-51) is the main commercial spine.

## Character

        

Whitehaven is a predominantly African American middle-class neighborhood with a stable residential character. Graceland, the estate of Elvis Presley at 3764 Elvis Presley Blvd, occupies a significant portion of the Elvis Presley Boulevard commercial corridor and generates substantial tourism activity. ## History

        

Whitehaven was an independent municipality annexed by Memphis in 1969. Elvis Presley purchased Graceland in 1957 for $102,500; it became one of the most-visited private residences in the United States after his death in 1977.
