Discover Memphis: A Sushi Lover’s Paradise
Memphis may be best known for its blues and barbecue, but if you take a closer look, youโll find an incredible sushi scene waiting to be explored. That’s right folks! The 901 is home to some seriously delicious sushi and sashimi thatโll have your taste buds dancing.
Sakura: A Local Favorite
One of the first places I’d recommend is Sakura, where the sushi is not just fresh but also a medical necessity for a sushi addict like me! With its three convenient locations in East Memphis, Germantown, and Collierville, this spot serves up some of the most impressive rolls you’ll ever encounter. Picture this: the rolls are large and perfectly cut, making sure you get that perfect bite every time.
What to order? The Sexy Lady roll is a must-try. Itโs packed with Tempura Shrimp, Snow Crab Mix, Cajun Tuna, White Tuna, Avocado, and a tasty hit of Ponzu and Sriracha. For sashimi lovers, I canโt recommend the Sashimi Dinner enough โ it features 9 pieces of chefโs choice sashimi, along with California rolls and soup. My personal favorite? The Sunset Roll, which is an explosion of flavor with Crawfish, Asparagus, Shrimp, and more. Just a heads up, this place can get busy, especially during peak hours. But believe me, itโs worth the wait!
Sekisui: A Trio of Temptations
If youโre in the mood for a bit of a journey, letโs swing by Sekisui. With three different vibes at their East Memphis, Midtown, and Pacific Rim locations, you’re sure to find a sweet spot that suits your mood. My heart really belongs to Pacific Rim, where the ambiance is just right for a cozy date night.
Check out the White Serpent for a unique combo of Shrimp, Crab, and Seared Super White Tuna drizzled with Eel Sauce. And for something a bit different, the Hamachi Kama, or Yellowtail cheek, is a standout dish served slow-cooked with jalapeno and ponzu sauce!
SMS: Sushi with a Twist
Now, letโs head down to downtown Memphis and check out SMS. This trendy little spot not only serves amazing sushi but also has a lively patio that makes for a delightful dining experience. Donโt forget to try their Sake Bombs โ they bring a gong to your table for extra flair!
When I visit, I canโt resist the Saintโs Roll, loaded with Blue Crab and Eel Sauce, topped off with deliciously seared salmon. If youโre feeling adventurous, try the Julia Roll โ itโs a sushi party with Tuna, Wasabi Mayo, and those little pearls of Wasabi Flying Fish Roe.
Takashi: A Hidden Gem
While weโre in the spirit of uncovering gems, letโs talk about Takashi. This unassuming spot has been delighting locals with scrumptious dishes that include an extensive sushi menu and other tantalizing Asian cuisines. You can go wild here with the Rainbow Sashimi thatโs as beautiful as it is tasty, featuring thinly sliced assorted sashimi.
Donโt sleep on the Lobster Tempura Roll or the decadent Kabuki Roll with spicy crabmeat and pepper tuna. Itโs perfect for a treat any day!
Wasabi: Quick Bites Done Right
If you want quick sushi without sacrificing quality, Wasabi is your go-to! Located in the Sanderlin area, they have awesome sushi roll bundles and lunch specials. Try their Tokyo Roll or for a lighter option, the clever Naruto Roll, wrapped in cucumber instead of rice โ itโs refreshing and guilt-free!
Sushi Jimmi: The Legend
And finally, we can’t leave out Sushi Jimmi, the local legend known for his deliciously creative dishes. If you havenโt tried his sushi burritos yet, get excited! With a range of options, the 901 Sushi Burrito will transport you to sushi heaven.
Remember, this list is just a taste of all the places to grab sushi in Memphis. There’s so much more waiting to be discovered! So, grab some friends, hit a few of these spots, and prepare for a sushi experience thatโs anything but ordinary. Whoโs hungry?
