Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk: A Heartwarming Event in Memphis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. โ On a bright and cheerful Sunday, October 27, the Down Syndrome Association of Memphis and the Mid-South (DSAM) is ready to bring the community together for its 27th annual Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk. This energetic event will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Bert Ferguson Park in Cordova, in celebration of National Down Syndrome Awareness Month. What a fantastic way to support and spread awareness!
A Gathering for Everyone
This yearโs walk, which is about one mile long, is expected to attract an impressive 2,500 participants. This makes it one of the largest disability awareness events in the Mid-South region. The walk aims to support over 1,500 individuals with Down syndrome living in the Memphis area, demonstrating just how much this event means to the community.
โWe are very excited about our 27th anniversary,โ shared Lori Green, the Executive Director of DSAM. She added, โWe hope the entire Mid-South community will join us at the Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk to celebrate the lives and accomplishments of those we support and to show we are more alike than different.โ Her words resonate with the spirit of the event โ togetherness, laughter, and mutual understanding.
Fun Awaits!
Participants of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to join, regardless of whether they have Down syndrome or wish to show their support. The event promises to be filled with excitement, including a picnic, various forms of entertainment, and a special area for children to play. Guests can stroll around and check out vendors showcasing various goods and services throughout the afternoon. Itโs truly a day for everyone!
Prizes and Recognition
And thatโs not all! There will be prizes awarded for the highest fundraisers and the largest teams. So gather your friends and family, and maybe form a team to compete for these exciting awards. Itโs an excellent opportunity to bond over a shared mission while being part of something much bigger.
Supporting a Noble Cause
The proceeds from the event will be directed towards DSAMโs age-appropriate programs designed to support individuals with Down syndrome and their families. This funding is vital in helping to create resources and programs that are tailored to the specific needs of the community, ensuring that everyone has access to enriching opportunities.
Join the Movement!
As the day approaches, thereโs a sense of excitement in the air. Whether you are a first-time attendee or a long-time supporter, the Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk promises to be an inspiring event filled with camaraderie and joy. So, if youโre wondering what to do that Sunday, why not lace up those walking shoes and come on down to Bert Ferguson Park? Your participation could help make a significant difference in the lives of many.
