Memphis – A 28-year-old man has been arrested for reckless driving in a stolen vehicle early Sunday morning in downtown Memphis. Gavin Robinson was reportedly observed driving a stolen black 2021 Dodge Charger erratically at the intersection of Union and Fourth Street.
Multiple complaints were received by the police about reckless driving in the area, prompting officers to investigate the situation. While on patrol, officers witnessed Robinson performing donuts with the Charger, narrowly avoiding collisions with other vehicles and pedestrians.
To stop the reckless behavior, police deployed stop sticks, which ultimately disabled Robinson’s vehicle. Upon realizing he could no longer escape in the Charger, Robinson exited the car and attempted to flee on foot. However, law enforcement quickly apprehended him.
The Dodge Charger was reported stolen from Atoka, Tennessee. Following the arrest, police received information from an anonymous tipster who informed them that Robinson had thrown a black backpack near a dumpster during his escape.
Upon searching the area, police recovered the backpack, which contained a significant amount of money, cocaine, fentanyl, and a scale used for measuring drugs. In close proximity to the backpack, officers also discovered a stolen Glock 17 handgun.
Robinson now faces multiple charges, including:
- Two counts of theft of property
- Reckless driving
- Possession of a controlled substance
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony
- Evading arrest
On Monday, Robinson was granted a bond set at $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding reckless driving, vehicle theft, and drug-related crime in the Memphis area. Authorities continue to urge the public to report any suspicious behavior to help maintain safety within the community.
The Memphis Police Department is investigating further details surrounding the stolen vehicle and any potential connections between Robinson and ongoing criminal activities in the region. Local officials stress the importance of vigilance and community involvement in addressing these issues.
