Mid-South Takes the Leap: One Million Pounds Challenge Heats Up!
Hey there, Memphis! Have you heard the buzz? The fight is on for the Mid-South to shed a whopping one million pounds over the next three years! Yes, you heard it right! Thanks to the incredible efforts of the Healthier 901 Challenge spearheaded by Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, our community is already off to a great start, losing over 8,300 pounds collectively! But thatโs just the beginningโletโs talk about how one delightful group of women is hopping into this initiative with a fun flair.
Jumping for Joy: The Double Dutch Therapy Challenge
Meet the ladies of Double Dutch Therapy, who are not only jumping rope but are also jumping at the chance to inspire others to embrace health and happiness. Founded by the amazing Selena Cook, this fun-filled group is all about creating a sisterhood thatโs focused on wellness, fitness, and community spirit.
โDouble Dutch Therapy is just not about double dutch. Itโs about a sisterhood, itโs about wellness, itโs about fitness, itโs about coming together and saying, โyou as my sister, I care,โโ said Cook, who passionately describes the mission of her group. Whether youโre a novice or a pro, thereโs a place for everyone; all you need is to be a woman over 39, and youโre in! And letโs not skip over the inspiring fact that their oldest member is a lively 92-and-a-half-year-old gal from Californiaโtalk about #Goals!
A Jumping Good Time, Wherever You Are!
Founded just in May, Double Dutch Therapy has already spread its enthusiasm beyond Memphis with chapters popping up all over the country in Delaware, California, Illinois, Batesville, and of course, right here in our own backyard! After learning about the Healthier 901 Challenge, Cook wasted no time bringing her womenโs circle into the fold. Their participation at this yearโs Healthier 901 Fest was a hit, with the ladies showing off their impressive skills and sweetening the deal by recruiting new members.
โWe received over 66 emails from Healthier 901 asking, โHow can I join the challenge thatโs encouraging people to lose collectively a million pounds?โ…who wouldnโt want to be a part of that?โ Cook exclaimed, showcasing the overwhelming enthusiasm from the community.
More Than Just Jump Rope
If jumping rope isnโt your style, fear not! Double Dutch Therapy also keeps the fun alive with line dancing, hula hooping, and yes, even some good old-fashioned hopscotch! The joy these activities bring canโt be overstated. Michelle Vinne, Co-leader for the Memphis chapter, reminisced, โIt reminds me of my childhood. Just good memories. We were so free back then, and things are so restricted now. Itโs just a joy to do something now that we used to have the pleasure of doing as children.โ
And there you have it, Memphians! If youโre looking to jump into a healthier lifestyle while fostering friendships and sharing laughs, why not join Double Dutch Therapy or dive into the Healthier 901 Challenge? Together, letโs make that million-pound goal a reality while having the time of our lives!
