Memphis – Three men were found dead in the Mississippi River near a boat ramp at Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park following a swimming and fishing accident. The deceased have been identified as Marlon Mendez, 28, Rudy Perez, 31, and Jose Yanes, 52. They were reported missing on July 22, 2025, after being last seen on a sandbar south of the boat ramp.

The Shelby County Sheriffโ€™s Office (SCSO) received a report of the menโ€™s disappearance at 7 p.m. on July 22. Search and rescue operations began the same evening but were suspended around 10:30 p.m. due to darkness. Efforts resumed the following morning at approximately 9:40 a.m., involving multiple agencies, including the Shelby County Search and Rescue, U.S. Coast Guard, and Memphis Police Aviation.

Tragically, the first two bodies were recovered at around 11 a.m. on July 23, followed by the recovery of the third body at approximately 12:45 p.m. The river site has witnessed increased recreational activities, but local officials warn of hazardous conditions. The Mississippi River is known for its strong currents, submerged obstacles, and debris that can create dangerous situations for swimmers and fishermen alike.
