Memphis Woman Arrested After $16,000 Shoplifting Spree Across 17 Stores

Memphis Woman Arrested for Major Shoplifting Spree

In an eyebrow-raising turn of events here in Memphis, a 23-year-old woman named Charity Evans has found herself in a tangled web of trouble. On Tuesday, authorities arrested Evans, who is accused of engaging in a month-and-a-half-long shopping spree that cost local businesses a stunning approximately $16,000 in stolen goods!

The Details Unfold

According to the Memphis Police Department, Evans has been clocking serious shoplifting hours, allegedly ransacking at least 17 different stores across the city since early September. With a staggering 22 theft incidents under her belt, it’s clear that Evans had no intention of slowing down.

Going back to the start of this saga, from September 3 to November 4, Evans and her accomplices allegedly hit numerous establishments around Memphis. In one escapade, police say she and two partners in crime raided a Sally Beauty Supply store on North Germantown Parkway—twice no less! They made off with flat irons, hair clipping blades, and other beauty essentials, racking up a bill of nearly $1,300 in merchandise.

Wreaking Havoc at Other Stores

But that’s not all. Evans reportedly made her way to the Academy in the 7900 block of Giacosa Place, where she and her crew snagged about $2,800 worth of sporting goods during two separate thefts. Clearly, stealing wasn’t just a hobby for Evans; it seemed to be her full-time job!

In a particularly wild twist, on September 3 and 6, she and four other women decided to give a Walgreens employee a run for their money. When a clerk tried to intervene, Evans and her pals threw bottles of nail polish at her in an attempt to escape with a whopping $1,100 in stolen merchandise. That incident has led to an additional assault charge against Evans. Talk about going out with a bang!

The Investigation and Arrest

In light of her numerous offenses, authorities had been on the lookout for Evans for quite some time. Last month, they circulated photographs of her along with four other wanted women, making it clear that enough was enough. Two of these women, Tamara Williams and Keyamber Kizzie, have already been captured, with Williams facing a staggering bond of $411,000!

As for Evans, she was booked at the Shelby County Jail and is facing both felony and misdemeanor theft charges. She’s currently being held without bond and is slated to appear in court on Thursday, where the judge will likely have a few things to say about her alleged shoplifting spree.

Remaining Questions

Meanwhile, two other accomplices, Brianna Neal and Meoshia Neal, still have active warrants out for their arrests. It seems the law might not have seen the last of this group just yet! If you spot any familiar faces, keep your eyes peeled—shoplifting may not be as fun as they seem to think!

As Memphis continues to confront the darker aspects of retail crime, one thing’s for sure: Charity Evans’ case has definitely grabbed local headlines and is likely to spark conversations around the importance of protecting our community’s businesses. It’s a wild world out there, and with waiting court dates ahead, we can only imagine what comes next for Evans and her crew.
