Memphis Sees a Breezy Weekend with a Touch of Trouble
Hey there, Memphis! As we roll into another week, it seems our city is enjoying a bit of a weather tease. While we started off with cloudy skies early on Sunday, those clouds gave way to a pleasant afternoon with highs reaching around 75ยฐF. Winds from the southeast kept the air moving a bit too, with gentle gusts of 10 to 15 mph. But donโt let that warm weather fool youโthereโs a chance for rain later, so keep an umbrella handy.
Weekend Violence in Hickory Hill
Now, letโs talk about a serious incident that unfolded in the Hickory Hill neighborhood. In the early hours of Sunday morning, just after the clock struck 2:00 AM, Memphis Police received a call about a gun violation. When they arrived at Raintree Drive, they found a woman who had done what many of us wouldโtrying to break up an argument between family members.
Sadly, her good intentions quickly turned problematic. According to reports, one of the men involved in the argument whipped out a gun and pointed it right at her, telling her to stay out of โfamily businessโ before firing a few shots into the ground. Luckily, another witness who was nearby saw what happened and ran inside their home just in time. Moments later, that same witness heard two gunshots echoing from the backyard. Sounds terrifying, doesnโt it?
Thanks to swift police action, the suspects were apprehended on the scene. During a search, officers discovered a black Sauer handgun tucked away in the waistband of one of the suspects. Turns out, the gun had been reported stolen from Southaven, adding another layer of trouble to this dramatic encounter. Both suspects were taken into custody for questioning and later transported to 201 Poplar.
Other Weekend News in Memphis
As if this wasnโt enough excitement for the weekend, Memphis witnessed a series of other incidents too. Tragically, a man was killed in a shooting later on Sunday afternoon in the Douglass neighborhood. Meanwhile, officers are on the lookout for five men who allegedly broke into a home in Hickory Hill earlier this month. Itโs a reminder that even as the temperatures warm up, things can turn serious in an instant.
On a more positive note, there were heroes on the scene as Shelby County deputies managed to rescue a bedridden woman from a house fire near Millington early on Sunday. Talk about a bit of good news to brighten up a dark situation!
World Remembrance Day
In case you missed it, November 17 marked World Remembrance Day. Folks gathered in communities across the globe to remember those who have tragically died in car crashes, while also advocating for change to improve road safety. Here at home, it served as a sobering reminder of the importance of safe driving and vigilance on the roads.
The Week Ahead
So, as we shake off the chaos from the weekend and step into a new week, letโs remember to stay safe and look out for each other. With the promise of more pleasant temperatures ahead, but some pesky chance of rain (around 20% during the day and 50% overnight), letโs enjoy the best of what Memphis has to offer while keeping an eye out for those sudden shifts that can happen in our lovely city.
Thatโs all for now, Memphis! Letโs make this week a great one!
