Memphis Braces for Arctic Chill: Warming Centers Ready to Assist

The city of Memphis is gearing up for a serious chill, as Arctic temperatures are set to sweep through the Mid-South. With the forecast showing temperatures plummeting, city officials are stepping up to provide support by opening two warming centers this weekend.

When and Where to Find the Warming Centers

These warming centers will swing open their doors on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at 10:00 p.m. and will remain available until Monday, February 17, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. If you or someone you know needs a warm place to stay, look no further!

  • The Hospitality Hub at 590 Washington Avenue will be welcoming single women and families.
  • The First Baptist Church located at 200 East Parkway North will be dedicated to serving single men and couples.

What to Expect at the Centers

As temperatures take a nose dive, these centers will be providing essential supplies to keep guests cozy. Attendees can look forward to receiving sack meals and blankets while supplies last. It’s important to note that guests must check in upon arrival, but there’s no need to worry about bringing identification – that’s one less thing to stress about!

Getting to the Warming Centers

If transportation is a concern, Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) has got you covered! They will be offering rides to the warming centers. To arrange your transportation, simply call 901-297-1680 during operating hours, and they will assist you in getting to a warm spot.

What’s the Weather Forecast?

It might be a good idea to make sure your winter coat is in tip-top shape! The weather forecast for the weekend indicates partly cloudy skies with a high around 43°F and a low dipping to 29°F. Northern and southern winds will be blowing in from the NNE at 5 to 10 mph and ESE at 5 to 10 mph, making it feel even chillier outside.

Preparing for the Snow?

Local emergency services are getting ready for all sorts of wintry surprises, which may include snow across the Mid-South. With the temperatures dropping and the potential for snow, it’s wise to take precautions and stay informed.

Other Community News

On a brighter note, Memphis Parks is hosting a free Spring Break Camp for youth, bringing some positive energy and activities for the kids to enjoy during the impending cold snap. It’s great to see the community coming together for fun and educational events!

In other local news, it’s a bit of a mixed bag this week. There have been reports of unfortunate incidents, including shootings and a levee break which led to a state of emergency declaration in nearby Obion County. Always keep an eye out for updates and stay safe!

As Memphis faces this Arctic frigidness, let’s support each other and help those who need it most! If you or someone you know needs assistance, remember those warming centers have a lot to offer!
