Outrage in Memphis: Mother Demands Justice After Son with Disabilities Scammed Out of $700

Outrage in Memphis: Mother’s Anger After Son Scammed Out of $700

In the heart of Memphis, a mother is absolutely devastated after her son, who has developmental disabilities, was targeted and scammed while working his shift at Kroger. Angela Brown is speaking out, expressing her concerns about the incident that left her son, Keuntae, shaken and out of pocket.

What Happened?

On a sunny Friday afternoon, while Angela was waiting outside the Kroger on Shelby Drive to pick her son up from work, she received an alarming notification. Over $700 had been withdrawn from Keuntae’s bank account. “I found out that he had been robbed,” Angela recounted, her voice trembling with anger. “Scammed by two guys who took his debit card.”

With the help of his mother, Keuntae was able to share the story of his ordeal. He explained how he was approached right after leaving the restroom by two intimidating men. They didn’t waste any time and began to bully him into transferring money to their CashApp account.

A Cunning Plot

When their initial demands met with resistance, the situation escalated. Keuntae described how the men pressured him into revealing his debit card details and forced him to enter his PIN number at a store ATM. It was at that moment they withdrew the funds directly from his account.

Angela Brown expressed deep concern that her son was targeted simply because he has special needs. “Because of his disability, they took advantage of him,” she said, her heart full of rage for what her son endured. “I just don’t feel like it was right.”

Kroger Responds

As soon as the horrifying incident came to light, Kroger management and their security team sprang into action. They quickly alerted the police and shared surveillance footage from the store to aid in identifying the two criminals who preyed on Keuntae.

Police Investigation Underway

As of Monday evening, Memphis police confirmed that no charges have been filed, but the case is still under investigation. It’s crucial to bring these perpetrators to justice, especially in light of how vulnerable individuals like Keuntae can be easily exploited. Angela hopes that by sharing her son’s experience, others will be more aware and take steps to protect themselves.

Spread the Word

This incident not only shocked Angela but has also drawn attention to the need for vigilance in our community. It serves as a crucial reminder for all of us to look out for those who may be more vulnerable to similar attacks, ensuring a safer environment for everyone, especially those with disabilities.

Angela and Keuntae’s story urges us to remain informed and alert. If you see something suspicious, don’t hesitate to report it! After all, it’s our collective responsibility to foster a safer society for all.
