Memphis is set to host a series of exciting artistic events this weekend, most notably the 10th Anniversary Outlaw Music Festival, showcasing legendary acts, and the Tony Award-winning musical “Kimberly Akimbo.” With a variety of performances and experiences planned, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Outlaw Music Festival Highlights

The Outlaw Music Festival, marking its 10th anniversary, will feature headline performances by iconic musicians including Willie Nelson & Family, Bob Dylan, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Trampled by Turtles, and Tami Neilson. This year promises to be the biggest Outlaw Tour to date, with tickets priced starting at $95.

Festival-goers will have the opportunity to explore the vibrant atmosphere of South Main, where galleries, shops, restaurants, and bars will remain open late for a festive experience complete with live music and complimentary drinks.

Nashville Concert

In addition to the festival, a concert in the city will feature Nashville’s band Ernest alongside special guest Redferrin. Tickets for this event start at $36.

Musical Masterworks

The Outlaw Music Festival will also include free concerts spotlighting masterworks from the 20th and 21st centuries. These performances will feature notable compositions by artists such as Bach, Bartok, Prokofiev, Stravinsky, Milhaud, and Martinu, with shows taking place through Saturday at 7 PM and at 3 PM on Friday and Saturday.

Theatrical Performance: “Kimberly Akimbo”

On the theater front, the award-winning musical “Kimberly Akimbo” will also be performed in Memphis. This touching story follows a teenage girl dealing with family dysfunction and a rare genetic condition. Remaining performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM, Saturday at 2 PM, and Sunday at 1 PM and 6 PM. Ticket prices range from $29 to $130.

Celebration of the Halloran Centre

In tandem with these musical events, the Halloran Centre is celebrating its 10th anniversary through a new multi-genre performance series called Halloran Centre Presents. This series will feature both local and national artists and offers a diverse lineup of events, including intimate songwriting sessions hosted by Mark Edgar Stuart, a one-night magic show, and an immersive dinner theater experience by Princeton James Productions.

A concert featuring Orpheum alumni who have achieved success on Broadway will commemorate the Halloran Centre’s anniversary, alongside a family-friendly day of music and art workshops.

Rhythm of the Arts

The Rhythm of the Arts event will showcase flamenco performances complemented by tapas and wine, adding a vibrant flavor to the weekend’s artistic offerings.

Emerging Talent

Memphis musicians are making headlines with recent TV appearances and award nominations. GloRilla was awarded the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award at the BET Awards, while Valerie June recently released her new album and performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! as part of her promotional tour.

The local scene also embraces LGBTQIA+ musicians such as Julien Baker, Mama Honey, Anna Rose Baker, Wilson Good, Mak Ro, AJ da Ponte, Jordan Occasionally, Lawrence Matthews, Fosterfalls, and DJ AD, who are recognized for their impactful contributions to Memphis’ musical landscape.

This weekend in Memphis promises to be a celebration of rich musical heritage and artistic expression, bringing together renowned performers and local talents in a vibrant cultural showcase.
