Changes Coming to Memphis Bus Routes
Memphis, Tenn. โ Big news for public transportation users in Memphis! The Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) has just announced changes that will impact how residents get around the city. Starting on November 3, 2024, MATA will be cutting six out of its 23 bus routes. And if you rely on public transport, you might want to pay attention to the details of these adjustments.

However, MATA is currently facing some financial challenges. Their current operating budget is around $84 million, but due to budget cuts and some tough choices, they’re looking to trim that down by $17 million, bringing it to $67 million. Interestingly, MATA has seen a noticeable decline in ridership over recent years. Since 2019, the number of passengers has steadily dropped from over 6 million riders to just over 3 million in 2024 so far. However, thereโs a silver lining: in 2023, trolley ridership hit its highest point in five years, with nearly 402,000 riders.
