Memphis Man Arrested After $10,000 Apartment Burglary; 65 Stolen TVs Discovered in U-Haul

Residents of Memphis have been left shocked after a local man was arrested for a string of burglaries that racked up a staggering $10,000 worth of stolen goods last December. Brian Bowles, a 35-year-old man, has found himself at the center of a crime spree that has left many in the Eleven60 Apartments feeling unsafe.

Burglaries at Eleven60 Apartments

The trouble began in early December at the Eleven60 Apartments, located on the 100 block of Bellevue Boulevard. It seems Bowles was already familiar with the property, having been caught sleeping in the laundry room just a week prior to the burglaries. Residents were shocked when they learned that it’s believed Bowles had a way to access some apartments by obtaining spare keys from a locked shed on-site.

Victims of the burglaries reported significant losses. One individual was devastated to discover the disappearance of nearly $5,000 worth of treasured items, including jewelry, shoes, clothing, and electronics. Another victim felt the sting of losing over $4,000 in jewelry, along with clothing, shoes, credit cards, and a distinctive purple rolling suitcase.

Technology Turned Against Bowles

The case took a turn when Bowles was spotted on surveillance camera using one of the victim’s credit cards at a local Walgreens. This led to increased scrutiny from law enforcement, especially after the apartment manager observed him at a nearby gas station, carrying that same purple suitcase.

But wait, there’s more! Bowles seems to have a knack for ruffling feathers in the apartment complex. In another incident, he allegedly broke into another unit and even had the audacity to remove the carpet, which would cost over $1,000 to replace. Witnesses reported seeing him carry the rolled-up carpet and toss it over a fence, an act that likely raised more than a few eyebrows among residents.

As law enforcement circled in on Bowles, he was charged with three counts of aggravated burglary, two counts of theft of property, and burglary of a building. He was booked in the Shelby County Jail and is currently held on a $35,000 bond with a court appearance set for Tuesday.

Stolen TVs Found in Abandoned U-Haul

Helsley Street and Chelsea Avenue. Here, they stumbled upon an abandoned U-Haul truck that had been crammed with a whopping 65 stolen TVs. The total estimated value of those electronics? Over $28,000!

Police were alerted around 3:30 a.m. by reports of a U-Haul and two other vehicles lurking suspiciously near the train tracks. As officers approached the scene, the vehicles sped away, narrowly avoiding the police. Sadly, by the time they reached the U-Haul, the suspects were nowhere to be found.

Community Reactions

The series of events has left the community on high alert. Residents are understandably uneasy after learning about the burglaries and thefts happening right under their noses. The apartment complex is reviewing safety measures, while local authorities urge residents to stay vigilant.

This latest arrest and the discovery of the stolen TVs put a spotlight on the pressing issue of property crime in Memphis. The residents of Eleven60 Apartments and the surrounding community are hoping for a return to normalcy and certainly want to ensure that this kind of behavior is nipped in the bud.

Stay tuned for updates as the legal proceedings unfold and the Memphis community continues to rally against crime.
