Memphis Man Swiped Thousands in Auto Parts Burglaries
In a twist fit for a crime drama, a 41-year-old man from Memphis has been arrested after a series of burglaries that left local auto parts stores scratching their heads. Fred Taylor, who was taken into custody on March 12, 2025, is facing some serious charges – including three counts of burglary to a business, theft of property ranging from $2,500 to $10,000, evading arrest in a vehicle, and reckless driving. Talk about a tough break!
Burglary Spree: How it All Went Down
The saga began in the early hours of March 11. Around 12:57 a.m., police received a call about a burglary at the O’Reilly Auto Parts store on Frayser Boulevard. It turns out, Taylor pried open a rear door and made off with 10 batteries valued at over $2,000. But that wasn’t the first time he had pilfered from this location.
Just a month earlier, on February 12, at the same time of night (2:10 a.m. to be exact), Taylor struck again, stealing 11 batteries that also came to more than $2,000. And if that wasn’t audacious enough, he then targeted another store – this time, AutoZone on Summer Avenue – where he made off with 13 batteries worth nearly $4,000 on February 28.
Watch Out for the Blue Mechanic!
During these nighttime escapades, Taylor donned a blue mechanic jacket and pants, along with a reflective undershirt and boots to keep a low profile—before pulling that black face mask over his features. It’s as if he watched one too many heist movies!
The Big Chase
But that wasn’t the end of the story. Following the description of Taylor’s vehicle, a silver Infiniti M35 with a mismatched front passenger door and a unique deformity on the rear fender, the Austin Peay Task Force quickly noticed it while trying to catch the suspect. They tried to pull him over on Overton Crossing, but Taylor had other plans and decided to make a run for it. He sped away, running a red light – which made police think twice about chasing him closely. Safety first, right?
Thanks to some high-tech aid from the Tennessee Highway Patrol Aviation Unit, officers could keep tabs on the fleeing car. After a nerve-wracking chase, Taylor’s ride finally came to a halt in the 700 block of Persons. However, even then, he attempted to flee again. It was a scene out of a movie!
Finally Caught
The chase continued until police managed to corner him in the 2200 block of East Holmes. Finally, they apprehended him without incident, putting an end to his messy spree. Currently, Taylor’s bond is still up in the air, and there’s no court date yet on the calendar. But with multiple charges against him, it looks like he might have a lot of explaining to do when that day finally arrives.
What’s Next for Memphis’s Notorious Burglar?
This series of burglaries has raised eyebrows among local business owners and residents. With stolen property totaling upwards of $8,000, many are relieved that there’s been a swift response from law enforcement. It feels like a sigh of relief washed over Memphis as Taylor’s antics came to a close.
As the investigation unfolds, many are eager to see what legal repercussions await this brazen burglar. Will he learn his lesson, or is this just the beginning of a rocky road ahead? Only time will tell!
