Memphis Hosts a Weekend Celebration of Arts, Podcasts, and Theater

Arts and Culture Fest

Memphis Welcomes a Weekend Full of Arts and Culture

Hey, Memphis! Are you ready for a weekend jam-packed with creativity and fun? Grab your friends and family because this weekend is all about celebrating the arts! From crafts fairs to podcast festivals, and Shakespearean comedies, thereโ€™s something for everyone!

Pink Palace Crafts Fair: A Timeless Tradition

First up, we have the beloved Pink Palace Crafts Fair, celebrating over 50 years of community spirit and creativity! Although the Pink Palace might have dropped the โ€œPinkโ€ from its name, the fair continues to shine brightly on the local arts scene. Originally starting with a mere 30 craftsmen in front of the mansion back in 1973, this fair has blossomed into the largest juried arts and crafts fair in the Mid-South. Can you believe that?

Festival-goers can explore a delightful variety of crafts, including stunning jewelry, 2D art, glass, woodwork, leather, sculpture, and fiber arts. But thatโ€™s not all! Watch master craftsmen in action with live demonstrations, enjoy some toe-tapping live music, and find plenty of activities for the kids, like pony rides, a climbing wall, and even a choo-choo train! General admission is $10.75 for adults and just $4.75 for the little ones. Plus, parking is free with shuttles taking you right to the fair entrance!

Podcast Lovers Unite at PodBox Memphis Podcast Festival

If you’re more into podcasts, then the PodBox Memphis Podcast Festival is where you need to be! Kicking off at Beale Street Landing, the festival starts with a media mixer featuring local podcasters, social media influencers, radio personalities, and, yes, even our own Mayor Paul Young. Itโ€™s a fantastic opportunity to network and share ideas over a cup of coffee.

On Saturday, the excitement continues at Cossitt Library with a full day of engaging sessions, including panel discussions, expert talks, and interactive breakout sessions. For those aspiring podcasters out there, donโ€™t miss the podcast pitch competition! This is your chance to share your ideas and receive feedback from a panel of experts. The winning pitch snags an amazing launch package that includes recording time, on-air radio time with WYXR 91.7FM, and podcast coaching. Talk about a boost to your podcast dreams!

Fall Exhibitions at Crosstown Arts

Art enthusiasts will want to swing by Crosstown Arts for the opening of their fall exhibitions this weekend. With intriguing shows like โ€œANAโ€ขLOG,โ€ โ€œSize Matters,โ€ and โ€œStill,โ€ there’s plenty to ponder and appreciate. โ€œANAโ€ขLOGโ€ by Lester Merriweather immerses us in Black visualization in American culture. Meanwhile, Alex Paulus’ โ€œSize Mattersโ€ plays with small figures in vast landscapes, providing a fascinating contrast that invites discussion. And donโ€™t miss Michelle Fairโ€™s exploration of the painting process in her exhibit โ€œStill.โ€

Join them for the opening reception, where youโ€™ll enjoy a special menu crafted by chef Leah Getchel from Good Groceries Market & Cafรฉ, and sip on a complimentary cocktail featuring Cathead satsuma mandarin vodka. Sounds like a great reason to get out and support local art!

Shakespeare in Bartlett: The Comedy of Errors

And if the drama is more your speed, head over to the Bartlett Performing Arts and Conference Center for the Tennessee Shakespeare Companyโ€™s latest production, The Comedy of Errors. Youโ€™ll be in for a delightful ride with mistaken identities and laugh-out-loud moments! As part of their Free Shout-Out Shakespeare Series, enjoy a performance this weekend, and yes, it wonโ€™t cost you a dime! Just remember, seating is first come, first served.

For those who love theater, TSC also has some ticketed performances on their Tabor Stage, with prices at just $22 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $10 for studentsโ€”an affordable way to experience great theater!

Get Inspired at TEDxMemphis Talks

Lastly, for anyone craving inspiration, the TEDxMemphis Talks is a must-attend! With speakers discussing topics from The Tiny Home Revolution to the thought-provoking question, Could You Change The World By Drinking Your Coffee Black?, youโ€™re bound to leave with fresh insights and ideas. You can opt for a full day ticket for $140 or split it between two sessions for $75.

So, whether you’re delving into crafts, catching a podcast, enjoying a play under the stars, or soaking in some innovative talks, Memphis has a vibrant weekend ahead! Get out there and enjoy!
