Memphis-Shelby County Schools Appoint Lori Phillips to Oversee Office of Partnerships

Phillips Brings Experience and Commitment to the Role

Memphis, TN – Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS), with its commitment to enhance and expand the educational horizon, has established an Office of Partnerships, appointing seasoned educationalist, Dr. Lori Phillips, to lead the office.

MSCS superintendent, Marie Feagins, stated that Lori Phillips would serve as the Executive Director of Partnerships and Development. Her main responsibility is strategizing and leading initiatives that aim to connect every school in the district with a business partner. This collaboration is bound to bring about enhanced educational opportunities and robust support for students.

“Dr. Phillips’ extensive experience and deep-rooted commitment to community engagement makes her the ideal choice to lead our Office of Partnerships,” Feagins stated in a press release. “With her forward-thinking vision, we will strengthen our relationships with the business community and expand our network of partnerships for the benefit of our students and families.”

Previous Successes Bode Well for New Role

Before stepping into this new role, Phillips was the district’s Chief of Student, Family, and Community Affairs. She has a successful track record, having implemented the Community Schools Model in 10 district schools, thereby benefiting the surrounding neighborhoods with essential services and support. Additionally, Phillips played a vital role in setting up a district-level partnership with the Mexican Consulate.

Phillips hails from Memphis and has an impressive educational background. She has a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Mississippi Valley State University, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Memphis, and a doctorate in education with a focus on adult leadership.

Continuing Staff Adjustments Amid Changes

This appointment comes at a time when MSCS is undergoing various alterations in its staffing and organizational approach. The district is amidst the process of cutting central office positions, filling vacant posts in schools, and realigning its organizational chart. Several promotions and appointments have been noted in recent weeks with key leadership roles being filled.

New Leadership Team Members

A few prominent names in the new leadership team include Jared Myracle, Director of Literacy; Michelle Stuart, previously an MSCS maintenance veteran, now the Facility Services Officer; Roderick Richmond as the Transformation Officer; and Janice Tankson, Assistant Superintendent of Schools.

The reevaluation of the MSCS is confident of bringing positive and effective changes in the district’s education setup. With Dr. Phillips in her newly appointed position, the road towards strengthened community relationships in education looks promising.
