Rather than heading back to Vanderbilt, he took an unconventional route and ended up training on his own before signing with an independent team. Fast forward to the 2022 MLB Draft, and the Texas Rangers snagged him at the 3rd overall pick, offering him a sweet $5.2 million signing bonus.
Rockerโs Comeback
Of course, there was still another rocky road ahead. Just when things seemed to be going well, Rocker needed Tommy John surgery in May 2023. The Mets used their compensation pick from that fallout to select a different player, but Rocker didnโt let that stop him. He bounced back quickly, getting back on the mound well ahead of typical recovery times, and climbed the ranks within the Rangers’ organization.
