Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy Arrives in Memphis: Anticipations and Excitement Soar

Memphis, the city known for its quirky innovativeness, is soon to house a new swanky speakeasy with a literary twist. The Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy, a flash in the pan, is set to be hosted in the city starting from Aug. 1 through Aug. 3.

Experience the Richness of Poe’s Dark Literature

Targeted at classic literature and cocktail enthusiasts, the speakeasy at the New Daisy Theater will feature four of Edgar Allan Poe’s most prominent and chilling stories. Known for their gothic themes, these stories will be accompanied by cocktails strategically chosen to highlight the essence of each narrative’s central theme in the 90-minute long immersive experience.

Edgar Allan Poe: A Brief Overview

Edgar Allan Poe was an eminent writer, poet, author, editor, and a literary critic in the early 1800s. His work has been recognized for its dark themes and is known to leave readers in an unsettled state of mind. Born in 1809, Poe’s writings were oddly fascinating with most of them echoing concerns of Romanticism with references to the occult and the satanic.

Engage in Live Performances and Delight in Time-Seqenced Shows

Tickets for the Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy are available for 6 p.m., 8 p.m., and 10 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, attendees can choose from six different show times, starting from 12 p.m. and running through till 10 p.m. Ancillary details such as the cost of the tickets which fall in the range of $48 to $62 depend on the show’s date and time.

Classic Tales Reimagined

The storytelling sessions will feature spellbinding live performances of four of Poe’s stories; “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Raven,” “The Masque of Red Death,” and “The Black Cat.” Each narrative will be retold in a distinctive style, making this event a must-visit for Poe enthusiasts and lovers of classic literature.

Cocktails Inspired by the Stories

Giving the session an intriguing twist are the four unique cocktails designed to correlate with each of the performed stories. These include:

  • Pale Blue Eye: a fusion of blueberry vodka, fresh lemon, rose syrup, and La Croix
  • Cocktail of Red Death: a fiery blend of 100-proof vodka, cherry herring, benedictine liquor, lime juice, pineapple juice, and bitters
  • Edgar’s Twisted Brandy Milk Punch: a sweet concoction made of Kentucky Bourbon, French Brandy, vanilla cream, milk syrup, half and half, garnished with star anise
  • The Nevermore: an enticing mix of orange peach blossom, lime juice, and a combination of secret spices
