Red Cross volunteers at the Disaster Assistance Center in West Memphis
The Arkansas Red Cross will launch a Disaster Assistance Center in West Memphis on May 6 and 7, assisting residents impacted by severe weather. Located at the Roberta Jackson Center, this center will provide support for those affected by storms, tornadoes, and flooding. Additional centers in Hardy and Little Rock will also offer help. Residents can apply for financial assistance, and emotional support resources will be available for those coping with the aftermath of the disasters.
West Memphis, Arkansas – The Arkansas Red Cross is opening a Disaster Assistance Center in West Memphis on May 6 and 7 to provide support to residents affected by severe weather, including storms, tornadoes, and flooding that recently struck the area. The center will be located at the Roberta Jackson Center, 1300 East Polk Ave., and will operate from 3 PM to 7 PM on both days.
This center is accessible to all residents of Crittenden County who have experienced hardships due to the recent natural disasters. Those affected will have the opportunity to discuss their eligibility for financial assistance related to any storm damage endured.
In addition to the West Memphis location, additional Disaster Assistance Centers are being established in Hardy and Little Rock. The Hardy center will be situated at the Historic Old Hardy Gym, located at 201 School Ave. and will be open on May 7 from 3 PM to 7 PM. The Little Rock center will be housed at the Red Cross office at 2610 Shackleford Road, Suite B, operating on May 8 from 3 PM to 7 PM.
Individuals looking to apply for assistance can complete necessary paperwork at the centers or online at redcross.org/gethelp. It is recommended that residents who have sustained damage to their homes visit these centers for assistance.
The Arkansas Office of Emergency Management has communicated these updates, advising residents affected by the flooding and severe weather to seek help through these designated centers. The American Red Cross is also appealing to the community for donations to further support disaster relief efforts.
In connection with recovery efforts, an emotional support resource is available through the Disaster Distress Helpline at 1-800-985-5990 for those needing assistance coping with the aftermath of the storms.
Additionally, the Realtors Relief Foundation is accepting applications for grants aimed at helping homeowners and renters who have been approved and have faced storm damage. Homeowners must have sustained damage and must either have a mortgage or own their home outright to qualify, while renters must show proof of displacement from storm-affected residences.
To apply for relief, required documentation includes proof of residency and photographs of the damage sustained. Applications for assistance can be obtained through the Independence County Office of Emergency Management or the Cushman Fire Department. It is important to ensure that all applications are complete, as incomplete submissions will not be accepted or reviewed.
As West Memphis and surrounding areas recover from the recent storms, community members are encouraged to take full advantage of these resources to aid in their restoration efforts.
