Shocking Discovery in Memphis: Man Found Beaten and Hidden Under Trash

Memphis, Tennessee โ€” In a heart-wrenching incident that has left the community shaken, police are currently investigating a case involving a severely beaten man who was found hidden under a pile of trash. This upsetting event took place on Thursday morning, and here’s what we know so far.

The Discovery

At around 9:14 a.m., officers responded to a report of an aggravated assault occurring near 741 Neptune Street. The alarm was raised by a sanitation worker who had been doing his job when he heard a faint sound coming from a nearby refuse pile. Curious and concerned, he, along with his co-worker and a few others, decided to investigate the source of the noise.

What they found was distressing: an older man, severely injured, lying beneath a mound of trash. The victim was unable to speak and appeared to have been brutally attacked. When the police arrived, they confirmed that his face and the back of his head were bleeding heavily, and his face was visibly swollen. Although conscious, he could not provide any information about what had happened to him.

The Victim’s Condition

Emergency medical services quickly rushed the victim to Regional One Health in critical condition. As more details emerged, officers tried to piece together the events that led to this violent act.

The Investigation Unfolds

As part of their inquiry, police officers spoke with a resident of Neptune Street who mentioned that he shares a rooming house with another tenant. To everyone’s surprise, a computer check revealed that the identity of the other tenant matched that of the victim found across the street. This piece of information left the officers with more questions than answers. The resident claimed he was asleep during the incident and had no idea about any disturbances or potential enemies of the victim.

Another local resident chipped in with some insight, saying thereโ€™s a homeless individual usually spotted outdoors across the street. However, this witness also asserted that they had not heard anything unusual that morning. As police work diligently to gather more facts, they reviewed surveillance footage from nearby cameras which showed some activity in the area.

Security Footage Insights

The footage revealed the victim earlier that day, walking back and forth and throwing away trash. It also captured the fleeting image of another man dressed in black disposing of garbage, although frustratingly, it didnโ€™t show any signs of the assault taking place.

Next Steps

As of now, the identity of the suspect remains unknown, and the investigation is still ongoing. Memphis authorities are urging residents to come forward with any tips or details they may have regarding this incident.
