Memphis Residents Brace for Rainy Week Ahead and Upcoming Driver Kiosk Upgrades

Memphis Weather Forecast: A Rainy Start to the Week!

Good morning, Memphis! As we kick off a new week, itโ€™s safe to grab that umbrella because it looks like weโ€™re in for some rainy weather. Today, expect cloudy skies with occasional showers and a high of only 56ยฐF. Those gentle winds from the south will make it feel a bit breezy at 5 to 10 mph, so maybe a light jacket wouldnโ€™t hurt either! Thereโ€™s an 80% chance of rain, so letโ€™s be prepared for some wet conditions. Tonight, the mercury dips to a low of 53ยฐF with rain showers continuing, and onward into the week, it looks like weโ€™ll have similar drizzly weather sticking around.

Exciting News for Drivers in Shelby County!

In other news thatโ€™s sure to impact many residents, Shelby County is gearing up for upgrades to its driver kiosks! Starting tomorrow, these self-service kiosks will be going through some much-needed equipment improvements. In total, two kiosks in Shelby County, along with one in both Lauderdale and Crockett County, will shut their doors for these upgrades. The county clerkโ€™s office on 1075 Mullins Station Road and the University of Memphis kiosk will be closing, along with one located at 1 South Bell Street in Alamo, and another at 675 Highway 51 South in Ripley.

What are the New Kiosks All About?

With this upgrade, the new self-service kiosks are designed to streamline Driver Services transactions. What can you do at these nifty machines, you ask? Well, youโ€™ll be able to renew or replace your driver license or ID card, change your address, update your emergency contact information, advance a Teen/Graduated Driver License, pay reinstatement fees, and even request a license reissue once your reinstatement requirements are met. How cool is that?

The new kiosks are designed to be user-friendly, taking photos and processing payments with Apple Pay, Google Pay, or traditional credit and debit cards. If youโ€™re wondering how long these upgrades will take, the timeline is still a little fuzzy. The Department of Safety and Homeland Security (DSHS) encourages Tennesseans to check their website to stay updated on reopening dates for the kiosks and any other Driver Services closures.

Community Events You Might Have Missed!

Now, while we’ve got rain to talk about, letโ€™s not forget some heartfelt community events happening around town. Just this past Saturday, dozens gathered to remember Ellie Young, a young woman whose life was tragically cut short due to domestic violence. Participants joined together for a walk in her honor, showing just how much she is cherished in their memories.

And if youโ€™ve been following the court case involving the capital murder trial of a man accused of killing Ole Miss student Jimmie “Jay” Lee, the fifth day wrapped up recently, giving more insight into this harrowing situation. Our thoughts go out to all the families affected by these events.

Stay Safe Out There, Memphis!

As we watch the skies get darker and rain showers begin, letโ€™s stay safe and dry. While the weather may not be perfect for outdoor activities, itโ€™s a great day to tackle indoor projects or cozy up with a good book and a warm drink. And remember to keep an eye on the updates regarding the kiosks if you’ve got some errand running to plan for after the upgrades are completed!

Thatโ€™s the scoop for today! Letโ€™s make the most out of this rainy week ahead, Memphis friends!
