Big Crowds and Spiritual Connections at the 116th Annual COGIC Holy Convocation in Memphis
Memphis, Tenn. โ The air is buzzing with excitement in the Bluff City as the 116th Annual COGIC Holy Convocation kicked off today at the Renasant Convention Center. This week-long event is not just a major gathering of faithful attendees but also a significant boost for the local economy, with estimates suggesting it could bring in a whopping $30 to $40 million over the next seven to eight days! Now, thatโs what we call a win-win for everyone involved!
A Spiritual Family Reunion
For many, attending the Convocation is like a spiritual family reunion. Take Ronald Wilson, for example, who has traveled all the way from South Hampton, New York to be here. โI look forward to this every year,โ he shared with a big grin. โItโs all about connecting with others who share the same faith. Plus, I canโt resist the southern hospitality and delicious food!โ
Getting Around the City
With thousands expected to descend upon Memphis for the event, itโs important to have a solid transportation plan. The good news? Local officials have worked tirelessly to ensure that attendees can easily get around. Starting at 6 a.m. each day, MATA buses will be making rounds from hotels around the city, helping guests travel to and from the Convention Center and Mason Temple.
The bishop shared, โWe got MATA bus services to replace the trolley thatโs usually available. The MATA on Main Street will be running from 6:45 a.m. until around 11 p.m., so everyone can get where they need to go without any hassle.โ Additionally, the Convention and Visitors Bureau will provide buses to transport attendees from major hotels downtown, ensuring that no one is left stranded!
Plans for the Future
While everyone is having a fantastic time, questions loom about the future location of the Convocation. As it turns out, the decision about where the 2026 Convocation will be held is still in the air. โWe are not quite sure what the future holds as of yet,โ said Frank White, the Financial Secretary for COGIC. Attendees will get a chance to weigh in on the future during a General Assembly session, where delegates will gather to discuss the potential future of the event.
Enjoying Memphis to the Fullest
With all the activities planned, from worship services to workshops, thereโs no shortage of things to do. And letโs not forget about all the sights and sounds of Memphis! Wilson said, โI am not mad at this weather. I love the atmosphere here! Not only is there a deep sense of community, but the food and the warmth of the city make it all the better.โ
Coordinators are making sure that everything runs smoothly, from providing transportation to creating a welcoming environment for all attendees. It’s a big effort, but it seems to be paying off as thousands have already shown their support by arriving in droves.
