Germantown Cyclists Gear Up for Annual Ride to Rosemary Beach
Germantown, Tenn. is buzzing with excitement as a spirited group of cyclists prepare to embark on a heartfelt journey to Rosemary Beach, Florida. This year marks the 14th installment of the Ride to Rosemary, a special event that has gained a loyal following since it first rolled out in 2011. But this isn’t just any bike ride; it’s a mission filled with purpose, resilience, and camaraderie.
The Beginning of a Beautiful Journey
The Ride to Rosemary was founded after one of the group’s members faced some personal challenges and yearned for a way to channel his energy into something positive. Todd Tillmanns, one of the passionate founders, said it best: “I wanted a new passion to focus on for my mental, emotional, and physical health.” And thus, this incredible journey was born.
But it didnโt stop there; Todd and his fellow riders saw an opportunity to make a real difference. They decided to raise funds for the West Cancer Center, driven by the needs of their community. After learning that a fellow rider had a loved one battling breast cancer, the team quickly rallied around the cause. “We all said that is great letโs do it,” Tillmanns recalled. And ever since, the momentum has only grown!
Riding for a Cause
This year, 71 dedicated cyclists will be taking on a whopping 500 miles over five days, all to raise an incredible $300,000. The enthusiasm and commitment displayed by all riders highlight just how much they care about the cause. Leighanne Soden, the President of the West Cancer Foundation, shared her sentiments, saying, “Itโs thrilling knowing how hard they work and train to raise money for the West Cancer Foundation.” For those involved, itโs not just about the ride; itโs about the impact they make along the way.
Transforming Lives for Thirteen Years
The Ride to Rosemary has been making waves for over thirteen years, raising a staggering $2.5 million towards vital services. These funds help cover breast screenings, transportation to oncology appointments, as well as provide wigs and post-surgery garments for those in need. Thereโs a sense of pride that comes with knowing the impact of their efforts on loving families facing the challenge of cancer.
More Than Just a Ride
Every year, the riders express their gratitude for the opportunity to make a difference. Todd Tillmanns clued us in on the experience, saying, โYou know you get through it because it is a team, and we have God and He is there with us all the time. We are praying for the patients, and we are with them with devotions every morning.โ Itโs this spirit of teamwork and perseverance that unites everyone involved and carries them through even the toughest parts of the ride.
A Community Comes Together
As excitement builds in Germantown, the community stands behind these cyclists. Friends, families, and supporters come together, cheering them on as they make their way to Rosemary Beach. The atmosphere is electric, with stories shared and friendships forgedโall for a common goal. It’s a rhythm of hope, and it resonates deeply with everyone involved.
So, as the clocks tick down to the launch, one thing is for sure: this ride isnโt just about miles logged on a bike; itโs a celebration of life, love, and the unwavering support that a community can offer. Together, riders and supporters alike are not just cycling; theyโre paving the way for a brighter tomorrow for many battling cancer.
Stay tuned for updates as these inspiring cyclists embark on their journey to Rosemary Beach!
