Then we package it, label it, and then weโre at the market,โ she explains. Itโs not just the young folks who benefit from the garden. Residents like Mr. Robert Frett are also frequent visitors. He shares, โIโm on a fixed income like a lot of elderly people. Any time I can save a dollar here or there, itโs always good, especially if itโs fresh.โ Frett stops by the garden a few times a week, often watering plants or just basking in the beauty of nature with a good book.
Frett particularly enjoys making smoothies with fresh peppers he grows. โI appreciate that James doesnโt use harsh chemicals on the produce,โ he adds, pointing out another benefit of community gardening. But it’s not just about the food; it’s about learning, too. โCome over and learn a little more about the different plants and what those plants do for you,โ he encourages others.
