SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Memphis Grizzlies are still perfect. Ty Jerome poured in 31 points on Sunday night and Memphis held off a late push to beat the Sacramento Kings 123-112 and move to 3-0.

Jerome was flawless at the line, going 14 for 14 on free throws. After dropping 45 in the season opener, he now sits atop the league at 36.5 points per game, a big turn for a guard who played only 15 games for Memphis a year ago because of injuries. Jerome first made his name in college at Virginia, where he started at shooting guard for the Cavaliers team that won the 2019 national championship.

Help came from up and down the roster. Rookie Cameron Boozer posted 16 points and 11 rebounds, Cedric Coward added a 15-and-11 double-double and Jaylen Wells chipped in 16.

Memphis took control in the second quarter, hitting 7 of its 14 tries from deep and winning the period 42-31. Two straight 3-pointers from Cam Spencer pushed the lead to 54-44, and the Grizzlies went to the break up 67-59.

Sacramento clawed all the way back and tied it 106-106 when Domantas Sabonis converted a three-point play with 5:41 left. Memphis answered right away: Isaiah Stewart scored and drew a foul, Coward added a basket and Jerome buried a 3 to make it an eight-point game.

Zach LaVine led the Kings with 37 points. Memphis played without center Zach Edey, who sat out to manage his left ankle, while the Kings were missing forward Keegan Murray because of an illness. Memphis now carries its unbeaten start into the next game on the schedule.
