MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis rap legend Project Pat will headline the LeMoyne-Owen College homecoming LOCHELLA music festival and tailgate on Saturday, Oct. 24, anchoring a full day of homecoming events on the college campus.
The day opens with the annual parade starting at 9 a.m. on Bellevue/McLemore, with the route ending at Saxon Avenue. After the parade, the celebration moves to Brownlee Lawn, where the music festival and tailgate run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The tailgate is free and open to the public, and food trucks will be on hand for food and drinks. Along with the headliner, the festival will feature student performers, giving current LeMoyne-Owen students a stage in front of returning alumni and neighbors.
Project Pat is scheduled to take the Brownlee Lawn stage at 1 p.m., which puts his set in the middle of the tailgate window for anyone planning to come and go during the afternoon.
The homecoming slate continues indoors that evening. LeMoyne-Owen will play Fisk University in women’s and men’s homecoming basketball games at Bruce Johnson Hall Gymnasium, with the women playing at 5 p.m. and the men at 7 p.m.
LeMoyne-Owen College is one of the colleges based in Memphis, and its homecoming festival and tailgate is open to the whole city, not just students and graduates. Anyone planning to attend can catch the parade, stay for the free tailgate and Project Pat, then head inside for the games. With the parade in the morning, the free festival at midday and a basketball doubleheader at night, the Oct. 24 schedule stretches from early morning into the evening.
