MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Grizzlies center Isaiah Stewart will miss time after the club announced he sustained a moderate left ankle sprain in the first quarter of the preseason road game against the Atlanta Hawks on October 5 and will be reevaluated in two weeks.

The team medical update said Stewart will be reevaluated in two weeks while recuperating from the sprained ankle. A second account said Stewart injured his ankle on a fall while defending a shot at the rim, left in the first quarter, and did not return after playing two minutes.

The timeline means Stewart is not expected to be available for the Oct. 21 season-opening matchup against the Utah Jazz. Memphis acquired the 6-foot-8 Stewart this summer in a trade with the Detroit Pistons, where he spent five seasons.

With Stewart sidelined, Zach Edey and Quinten Post are expected to receive the bulk of minutes at center. The Grizzlies have also used forwards Cam Boozer and Taylor Hendricks at center in stretches, plus two-way player Carson Cooper as another rookie center option.

City data lists Memphis City Hall at 125 N Main St, Memphis, TN 38103, the downtown civic hub near FedExForum where the Grizzlies play. Mayor Paul Young office tracks major sports and downtown event impacts for residents and visitors during the season tip-off window.

Fans should treat Stewart as day-to-day beyond the two-week reevaluation rather than a firm return date. The club has not announced a follow-up imaging schedule beyond the Oct. 9 medical update covering the moderate left ankle sprain suffered Oct. 5.
