18-Year-Old Arrested for String of Gas Station Robberies in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. โ€” An accused serial robber has found himself in hot water after being arrested by the Shelby County Sheriffโ€™s Office on Thursday. The young man, identified as 18-year-old Cordarious Moody, is facing multiple charges related to a series of gas station hold-ups that have unsettled Southeast Shelby County over the past few weeks.

How It All Went Down

The authorities received reports of an attempted robbery at an Exxon gas station located at 8001 East Shelby Drive around 12:50 a.m. on December 5. Eyewitness accounts stated that two men strolled into the gas station brandishing handguns, creating a tense situation for everyone inside. Luckily, thanks to the quick thinking of the store clerk, things didnโ€™t escalate too far. The clerk was able to retreat to a secure part of the station, which kept him safe from harm.

Detectives from the General Investigation Bureau and the BRAT (Burglary, Robbery, Auto Theft) unit quickly jumped on the case and soon identified one of the suspects as none other than Cordarious Moody. Later that same day, law enforcement officers found Moody armed with a semi-automatic handgun near the busy intersection of Winchester Road and Hickory Hill. He was promptly detained, raising the alarm bells regarding his potential involvement in those earlier robberies.

The Investigation Expands

Moving swiftly, detectives wasted no time gathering evidence and launched a search at a residence in the 4900 block of Wooddale Avenue on December 6. What they discovered during this search was crucial, as it linked Moody to not just the attempted robbery at the Exxon station but also provided evidence connecting him to at least three additional robberies and another attempted hold-up at a Circle K gas station. These criminal activities supposedly took place between November 16 and December 5, suggesting a troubling pattern of behavior.

What Comes Next?

This arrest is just the tip of the iceberg, as authorities are treating this as an ongoing investigation. They have indicated that additional suspects and charges are likely to emerge as the case unfolds. The publicโ€™s safety is clearly a priority, and whoever else may be connected to these crimes will need to answer for their actions.

As the sheriffโ€™s office continues to comb through the evidence and gather more information, residents in Memphis are left hoping that these crimes can be fully resolved without further incidents. It’s clear that the community is more than ready to see a decrease in these alarming trends of robbery that have been unsettling their neighborhoods.

A Community on Alert

Residents in Southeast Shelby County are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. With the holidays fast approaching, the last thing anyone wants is to feel unsafe during this festive season. Community members should keep their eyes peeled and hold on to the spirit of safety and teamwork that can help keep their neighborhoods secure.

Keep your mental notes sharp, Memphis! There’s a lot to keep track of as the investigation continues and more information comes to light. Stay tuned for updates, and remember, when in doubt, donโ€™t hesitate to reach out to local authorities with any information that may help.
